During my brief time in the army, I had been issued a”kitbag” to haul all my equipment back and forth to foundation. It was green by a complete piece of shit, made of green nylon, along with one-and-a-half feet wide. It broke through my next week in the ceremony, and I remember being sterile, but not especially surprised, when among those straps snapped and my equipment fell from one shoulder. As opposed to asking a new piece-of-shit tote, I bought a better one which served me well for the remainder of my time at the service and went to a local outdoor/military kit provider. I keep that bag, with all my equipment inside, ready to go for reserve obligation. However, that bag is halfway across the world. What We Enjoy Unwieldy name aside, the RUSH LBD XRAY 106LTK. B is roomy as hell (31″L x 14″W x 15″H), with a power of 106 liters, and made out of tough, tear- and – water-resistant 1050D nylon. It has one external zippered compartment along with the main compartment, but the zippered flap has a three zippered to kit. An ID/flash panel provides an easy way of ID’ing your stuff. The bag features external, reinforced grab handles and back Duraflex hardware, straps, compression straps, and lots of MOLLE attachment points for web gear. This is a easy, well-designed hand bag intended for quick access to equipment, available in two colours. That’s about it. Watch Out For Not a ton to dislike here. I was mostly hauling clothes, some hydration systems and other kit to test down in Colombia, and personal gear — roughly the same sort of material I would haul around in the military. I wouldn’t have minded to have another zippered compartment or 2 for quick access to select items. Having all the big stuff mix together in the main compartment is nice, but if you’re looking for a smaller thing (flashlight, laptop, etc.), it makes your life easier to have the ability to organize it into several outside, easy-access pockets. If you are a particularly old-school, salty, seagoing type, then you can spring to the older canvas”sea bag,” a duffel that closes in the top with a straightforward clip-and-loop system. They’re inexpensive ($22+), they are tough, and they’re a nightmare to locate anything inside, so bear this in mind. More in line with the 5.11 offering (and more modern) is the Mule from Israeli company Agilite, which comes with a 105-liter carrying capability, three large external pockets, anti-rip reinforced corners six padding-lined inner walls for $110. If you plan on leaving and never coming home (or not coming home for a very, very long time)you can go for the Mercury Luggage ACU/ABU Alpha Military Bag with Wheels for $104. I’ve dragged one of those around the world several times and it’s an absolute beast, using 600D polyester construction an internal divider as well as the certainly of having you charged at additional to get an heavy bag in the United counter. Verdict The RUSH was perfect for the short excursion down to Colombia, but I am even more eager to test it next year in a stint of reserve military training, which is when I have a tendency to stuff one of these bags to the breaking point filled with uniforms, equipment, and various and sundry crap. I am all for the idea of designing a item to do one thing, and one thing nicely , that is the line along which the RUSH LBD was assembled. Straightforward and largely unadorned with extraneous attributes, it is a fantastic solution for hauling a great deal of gear, and though it’s probably not the right choice to accompany you to The Ocean Club, in case you’re heading someplace a bit grittier — if to SCUBA dive, hike, or utilize in a military environment — it is probably the perfect solution.
