Now Trending: The End Of The Cleavage
YOU will no doubt have heard by now that the cleavage is over – at least as far as fashion is concerned. The focus has shifted on the red carpet too, says Kathleen Baird-Murray in the December issue of Vogue, on newsstands now. “On the red carpet, where you might expect to see overspill, all the cool girls are either braless, in a cape or striking a pose with one leg thrust from a side split,” she notes. Have we grown tired of the overt sexualisation of the Eighties and Nineties? Do we as women want to be taken more seriously? (See Victoria Beckham’s transformation from pop star and footballer’s wife to celebrated designer.) Or is it perhaps the wonderful array of designer options available now that revere previously unexplored erogenous zones – Emilia Wickstead’s signature cut-outs, for example – that has brought us to this point? Whatever the reason, these are the leading ladies to look to for style inspiration.
