A pair of schoolgirl plaits is utterly timeless, worn by nearly every woman at one point or another. Yet despite its built-in simplicity, there’s a versatility to the look that allows the wearer to put her own individualistic spin on the style. Case in point: Beyoncé and Mary-Kate Olsen, two diametric beauty powerhouses who stepped out with twinning hair today.
Dressed in a crimson wool coat and Lennon shades, Olsen wore hers with the signature unwashed rumple that has long been her trademark, tousled in the back like a bit of a bird’s nest. On the opposite end of the spectrum came Beyoncé, who tucked two loose platinum twists beneath a cap and paired them with dangling diamonds and a bold red lip, projecting a girlish romance that recalled last week’s whimsical Valentino show. Consider it undeniable proof that a childish braid is a beauty win, any way you slice it.
