5 Easy Upgrades for Your Everyday Hairstyle

Try a trendy new ‘do with just a few bobby pins and hair elastics.

1. A Sleek Ponytail

After you’ve secured your ponytail with a hair elastic, grab a section of hair from the pony that’s about the width of your pinky. Wrap this chunk of hair around the base of the ponytail. Tuck in any loose ends under the hair elastic, and secure the look by inserting a bobby pin that matches your hair color.

2. A Cool Updo

For a twist on the half pony, grab a section of hair between your hairline and the crown of your head and secure it down with bobby pins. Then, grab a tiny section of hair from the front right side of your head, wrap it behind, and secure it with a bobby pin on the left back side of your head. Repeat this motion on your left — grab a section of hair and wrap it around to the right. Continue these steps until you’ve pulled back three to four sections on each side, alternating the placement of the pins every time.

3. A Sky-High Pony

Prop up your ponytail with bobby pins for extra volume. Flip over your pony and insert two or three bobby pins halfway inside your hair elastic toward the crown of your head. Then, fluff your ponytail and flip it back over for a fuller look that won’t sag.

4. A Classic Side-Swept Look

To make a side-sweep, look to your right and pull all of your hair over your left shoulder. Behind your left ear, secure only the hair at the nape of your neck into a small ponytail. Hide your ponytail with the rest of your hair, then look forward, which will pull the hair on the right side of your head tighter.

5. The Perfect Fishtail

To keep your fishtail tight as you braid your hair, put your hair into a side ponytail first and secure it with an elastic band. Then, when you reach the end of the braid, secure the end with a hair elastic, and cut the top hair tie to reveal a perfectly tight and gorgeous plait.
